What is Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and how can it help?

 

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction or MBSR for short is a program that teaches practical Medication tools to help enhance our quality of life. The program was developed by Jan Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in 1978 and is now taught in 250 hospitals world-wide as well as in corporation and schools.

Research has demonstrated that regular mindfulness meditation practice brings about measurable changes in brain function associated with memory, sense of self, empathy and stress. Studies have indicated that MBSR supports coping with:

  • Anxiety
  • Depressions

  • Insomnia
  • Headaches
  • Chronic Pain
  • High Blood pressure

The MBSR 8 Week Program consists of:

 

Weekly instruction in mindfulness meditation in a non- religious context

Group discussions and activities enhancing everyday awareness

Strategies to deal with everyday challenges of stress, anxiety and chronic pain

Gentle stretching and mindful movement

Daily home assignments, workbook and practice recordings
