Baby Massage

What is Baby Massage?

Baby massage is when a parent or primary carer lovingly strokes or holds their baby. Using a high quality non-fragranced, vegetable oil, soothing holds and rhythmic strokes are given on each area of baby's body, following a sequence that has been developed over many years. The massage offers a wonderful experience and a special time to communicate both verbally and non-verbally with babies, so that they feel loved, valued and respected.

It is a lovely way to soothe, calm and enjoy time with your baby. Long before babies are able to speak, they communicate with the world around them through touch. The power of touch to soothe and heal is instinctive. Massaging your baby is an extension of this natural impulse.

What are the benefits of Baby Massage?

  • Improves colic, constipation and theeting discomfort
  • Calms irritable babies – breathing becomes deeper as massage raises levels of the 'feel-good' hormone oxytocin in both you and your baby. This helps you both feel calmer and relaxed. This can also help with breastfeeding.
  • Helping you become more confident in handling your child and better at recognising their needs
  • Provides opportunity for fathers to spend quality time with their babies
  • Although massage is beneficial for all babies, it is particularly useful for those with special needs.
  • Sonohysterosalpingogram (for identifying blocked fallopian tubes).
  • Baby Massage can be taught in group or private sessions with or without the use of aromatherapy oils. Please contact Nicole Flasser for more information.
